(September 13, 2008 ) No Wonder Carr is Bouncing! A Look at the 200-09 CoB-H MGT Salaries Though some of our sources have in the past questioned whether or not associate professor of MGT, Jon Carr, will actually be departing the CoB for Texas Christian University in January of 2008, data in the 2008-09 USM Budget Book support the news of Carr.s looming departure. That same Budget Book also points to at least some of the likely reasons that Carr will be bouncing in the coming months. These have to do with how far behind Carr, the recipient of the 2007 Louis K. Brandt Research Award, is in terms of salary.
(October 16, 2008) Still Going? A Look at New Journal Publications in the CoB There is little argument with the notion that much of the CoB's former research talent departed since former CoB dean Harold Doty took the reins of the organization back in July of 2003. At this point, with the arrival of new CoB dean Lance Nail, the CoB is barely hanging on when it comes to the research front. One problem Nail seems to be running into now is that many of the CoB's faculty vacancies -- and there have been many in the past few years -- were filled by the outgoing administration of former interim CoB dean Alvin Williams. As a number of reports here at USMNEWS.net have indicated, some of these late hires under Williams were questionable at best.
(November 24, 2008) CoB News, 24 November 2008 Carr Making Plans Sources say that some in the CoB have doubted whether or not associate professor of management, Jon Carr, is really scheduled to depart the CoB in December of 2008 for a new post at Texas Christian University. Now, with the news that Carr informed the University of Research Council of his imminent departure, those doubts can be put to rest. According to the October 2008 Meeting Minutes of the URC (bottom of page 2), a council that Carr currently serves on, Carr informed fellow Council members that he will soon be departing USM (see inserted below).
(December 9, 2008) GH Chatter Jon Carr's final days in the CoB are nearing. Carr, who recently had a publication in the Academy of Management Journal, had a number of other "revise and resubmit" situations with various premier journals in business (management, IB) during his CoB tenure, however these failed to further materialize. Word is that former CoB dean Harold Doty rewarded those "R&Rs" as actual publications, giving Carr undeserved merit raises throughout the years as a result. One story has it that, as a result of the largesse aimed at Carr's "R&Rs" by Doty, one CoBer often stated that in the CoB's "merit raise" process "one bird in the bush is better than two in the hand."
(December 10, 2008) GH Chatter The recent chatter about Jon Carr’s “revise and resubmit” raises has been of interest to some. It has been stated recently that, when discussing his research with co-authors and the like, Carr would often be out in the main corridor(s) of JAG speaking loudly through his cell so that as many as possible could hear him. Good stuff.
