(March 1, 2011) The Axis of Awful A Guest Editorial The story of the saga involving a handful of East Texas
universities, and the cadre of former USM administrators that appears to be damaging them, has been a hot item on
this website. That cadre of former USM executives – former USM provost Tim Hudson, former USM vice president
for finance Gregg Lassen, former USM business college dean Harold Doty, former USM health college dean Peter
Fos, former USM business college associate dean Farhang Niroomand, and former USM MBA director Stephen
Bushardt – worked at USM during, if not before, the Shelby Thames administration (2002-07).

(April 26, 2011) Cesspool President A GUEST EDITORIAL The recent news reports and editorials here at
USMNEWS.net about the USM-related mess at the University of Texas at Tyler provides a cautionary tale for those
seeking to land a top-level administration position in higher education. UT at Tyler president Rodney Mabry hasn’t
handled the mess very well thus far, and with former USM business college dean Harold Doty at the center of it all,
that lack of managerial acumen will most likely come at great cost to the UT at Tyler community. From misdeeds by
Doty and former USM management professor Stephen Bushardt, to an anti-Doty letter circulating within the Tyler
business community, to Mabry’s misdirected swipe at rectifying the boiling situation, things at UT at Tyler have been
testy and getting worse for some time now.
(May 9, 2011) Have You Seen These Bad Administrators? Bringing the Genius of The Student Printz to Tyler During
the tumultuous Shelby Thames administration (2002-07) of USM, the student newspaper, The Student Printz, stood
strong in the face of a heavy-handed set of administrators. As a result, much of TSP’s coverage of that controversial
presidency is memorable to so many who fought (1) against the Thames administration, and (2) for the institution
alongside TSP.
