(October 22, 2008) Carter's Mercenaries A Look at How George Carter's Politics May Ruin the Nail
Administration Have no doubts about it, EFIB chairman George Carter is on a mission to bring down the
new Lance Nail administration of USM's College of Business. And, with the hiring and firing and
"friendraising" efforts Carter has made over the past two decades, he may indeed pull it off before it is all
over. This column is Part 3 in a three-part series of opinion pieces that will attempt to explain just how
Carter may pull off the coup that some in the CoB are hoping for and others are nervous about.
(December 2, 2008) BREAKING NEWS Henderson Replacement Found . . . Anderson Flying North
HATTIESBURG – It looks as though the CoB has found a replacement for associate professor of accounting,
James Henderson, the long-time CoB faculty who is retiring this month (Dec-08). And to do so, it reportedly
looked no further than CoB-GC in finding assistant professor Mary Anderson. Sources tell USMNEWS.net
that Anderson will be moving north, from CoB-GC to CoB-H, to fill Henderson’s shoes.
(January 13, 2009) CoB Human Resources Update January, 2009 This month's issue of CoB Human
Resources Update begins with the CoB's accountants, whose research dereliction almost cost the SAIS, and
the CoB, accreditation (by the AACSB) in 2007. Though it represents, as reported earlier, a significant case of
slipstreaming, assistant professor Mary Anderson was published in Advances in Accounting in 2008. Also
in 2008, Anderson joined (again in a slipstreaming effort) CoB accounting professors Stanley Clark and
Charles Jordan on a publication in the Journal of Business & Economics Research.
(January 14, 2009) Perks for Buds XXIII Accountants in “Retreat” Dean Nail’s first retreat was, by all
accounts, a huge success. Reports say the area with the biggest no-shows for Lance seemed to be
Accounting. Bob Smith apparently was still in Atlanta. Where were Stan Clark and Mary Anderson? Aren’t
they two of the reputed movers-and-shakers? Was this a message sent to Lance that Lance is not in charge?
Perhaps it was continued outrage over Lance’s non-hiring of their favored candidate for director? Maybe it
was apathy like it seemingly was for Hsieh, Chen, and Malik. [Editor's note: DePree wasn't invited.] If there
are no consequences – and why would you expect any – it is just another example of Perks for Buds.
