(May 24, 2007) Money, Money, Money, Money Consulting and Paid Service in USM’s College of Business This report examines the consulting and paid service that faculty in the CoB are performing, at least according their own SEDONA files (as of May 2007). As you will see below, some of the CoB’s least research-active faculty are engaging in significant amounts of consulting and paid service, all of which enhances their (in some cases bloated) USM salaries. At the bottom of each consulting/paid service bio below, we provide salary data for 2006-07 along with a projected salary for 2007-08. Enjoy.
(November 2, 2007) GH Chatter Did you know that Mary Anderson (assistant professor of accounting) and Steven Jackson (SAIS Director) might be related? That's what some CoB faculty have heard. They both have degrees from Arizona State University, which is interesting. We do know that Anderson is sister to Joe Morgan, USM's Chief Financial Officer. She is also the daughter of the "Morgan" of the "Morgan Professorship in Accounting."
(November 19, 2007) 31st & PearlOn the Folly of Rewarding Dakhlia for Osmonbekov's Successes The recent letter to the editor of usmnews.net about Jon Carr's raise highlights the problematic structure of the CoB's 2007 "merit" raises. Carr's recent publication in The Academy of Management Journal brought "merit" in buckets, only his fifth-largest raise fell short of what was expected by all. These days it seems that being either John Clark, Michael Wittmann, Sami Dakhlia, Akbar Marvasti, or Mary Anderson is a necessary, and perhaps sufficient, condition for success, at least of the financial sort, in the CoB.
(April 24, 2008) CoB News, 24 April 2008 Google Scholar Citations Sluggers The Google Scholars citations analyses here at USMNEWS.NET usually make for some of our more popular reports. For those of you who have recently ventured out into GS-land, you may have noticed that Google has been working on implementing an upgrade to that engine. No group is more excited about that than USMNEWS.NET’s reporters. While we await that, there are some additional elements of research quality in the CoB to consider.
(June 24, 2008) Special Report Home Cooking An Investigative Series on CoB Faculty Research Credentials In her recent U.S. District Court deposition, assistant professor of accounting, Mary Morgan Anderson, had two chances to say how many A-level journal publications she has. On the first occasion she said 7 or 8, and on the second she stated 6 to 8. Now that the CoB has, at the eleventh hour, uploaded CoB faculty (individual) web pages, the veracity of Anderson's statements can be tested.
