(July 6, 2008) Special Report Dormy Jim Henderson Debunks the CPA=PQ Claim In his early-July-08 U.S. District
Court deposition, associate professor of accounting, James "Jim" Henderson, debunked the claim that having a
CPA license distinguishes an academic accountant as "Professionally Qualified." Henderson's points, presented
below, are important, given that former interim CoB dean, Alvin Williams, testified in a U.S. District Court
proceeding that former associate professor of accounting, Marvin Albin, was deemed "PQ" because he (Albin)
had a CPA license.
(July 10, 2008 ) Boiler Plate? By Duane Cobb So, it seems that CoB accountant Patty Munn believes that
institutional governance documents, such as a university's integrity policy, are "boiler plate" documents and can
be copied "without proper citation" by anyone wishing to use them. Munn and others are now using the "boiler
plate" argument to justify the CoB's (Doty administration's) copying of the academic integrity policy developed
by Syracuse University's Whitman School.
(January 19, 2009) GH Chatter The fiscal situation facing CoBers continues to deteriorate. The current 2% budget
cut has already been increased to 5%, and projections for next year are hovering in the 10% neighborhood. CoB
faculty will soon be losing their travel stipends as the budget problems continue to grow. With AACSB coming
back in 2012, dean Lance Nail's Economic Symposium prediction that the economy will need until then or later to
rebound has some concerned about re-accreditation.
(June 3, 2009) Nail's Road The CoB's next visit from the AACSB, its national accrediting agency, will occur in
February of 2012. That falls right about in the middle of the 2011-12 academic year. As such, the 2010-11
academic year is the all-too-important preparation year for the CoB's next AACSB re-affirmation process. Give
this calendar, one would think that CoB dean Lance Nail would attempt to leave, assuming he's looking to do so
(as some reports have it), during the upcoming 2009-10 academic year. Why then? Chances are decent that a "6th
Year Review" will land in the CoB's lap again in Feb-2012, so leaving in 2009-10 would give Nail a chance of
escaping the blame for such an outcome.
(July 23, 2009)Accreditors Beckon USM faculty are now posting on the USM Forum – Message Board that, based
on discussions with USM administration, academic programs that fall victim to the current budgetary crisis do not
have to be supported beyond the year in which the cuts are made. This means that stories about funding the
programs until their current students graduate are inaccurate.
