D. HAROLD DOTY, FORMER DEAN, COLLEGE OF
BUSINESS, CURRENT DEAN, UNIVERSITY OF TEXAS AT
TYLER
(August 18, 2006) Quotable Doty 1st Edition: Doty on Economic Education "... The PR Release focuses on three
USM faculty members, Melody Lo, Sunny Wong, and Frank Mixon. Of these three individuals only one (Mixon,
Professor of Economics) remains at USM. Former Assistant Professors Lo (recipient of the infamous "shame on
you" comment) and Wong departed USM following the 2005-2006 academic year for (respectively) the University
of Texas at San Antonio and the University of San Francisco, earning substantial pay increases. How hard had
Doty tried to retain these budding young scholars?...".
(August 19, 2006) Quotable Doty 2nd Edition: Doty on the Center for Economic Education "Quote number one
was the basis for the 1st edition of Quotable Doty and is included in this edition as a segue between our analysis
of Doty's statements about Economic Education and a highly related subject - the USM Center for Economic
Education. In this first quote, Doty cites national recognition and ranking in the field of Economic Education
research as a "contributing factor in [the CoB's] recent launch of the Center for Economic education." What are the
other factors? Maybe the second quotation will shed some light on the subject...".
(August 22) Quotable Doty 3rd Edition: Doty on other CoB Centers "In the 2nd Edition of Quotable Doty we
explored Harold and Susan Doty's involvement with the Center for Economic Education at USM and the
Mississippi Council for Economic Education. Our investigation revealed an interesting and possibly disturbing
development with regard to the MCEE and the CEE and sparked a cursory investigation into other Centers at
USM and Doty's level of involvement with those Centers...".
(August 23, 2006) Deconstructing AACSB Standards: Participants Standard 13 "'Individual teaching faculty
members: o Operate with integrity in their dealings with students and colleagues. o Keep their own knowledge
current with the continuing development of their teaching disciplines. o Actively involve students in the learning
process. o Encourage collaboration and cooperation among participants. o Ensure frequent, prompt feedback on
student performance.'...".
(August 25, 2006) 31st & Pearl Doty is Afraid "…Doty's parting shot was, however, a glowing example of his
woefully inept nature. In a statement veiled only to those new faculty members, Doty addressed attempts by
faculty to sabotage the AACSB process, a statement pointed at Marc DePree in specific and the contributors to
usmpride.com in general. There was no effort to initiate dialogue with individuals who disagree with Doty's (and
others') actions concerning AACSB reaffirmation. There was no mention of addressing concerns raised on
usmpride.com or in other venues regarding accreditation processes. True to form, Doty made his statement in an
attempt to quash dissent in the CoB. To his credit, DePree addressed Doty's charges head-on but not rudely,
leaving Doty incapable of a response and looking ready to bolt from the room as soon as the meeting adjourned,
again true to form…".
