(April 30, 2008) Special Report Sleepy Hollow – More on AJW & AACSB An Investigative Series on CoB Faculty
Research Credentials As USMNEWS.NET reporters and correspondents continue to sift through the pile of new
documentation from USM (received via a Freedom of Information Act request) regarding the CoB’s 2007-08 6th
Year Revew by AACSB, new reports will continue to arrive on the pages of the website. This report looks at a
portion of Interim Dean Alvin J. Williams’ response to AACSB regarding “Standard 10 – Faculty Qualifications.”
The CoB’s support in the development of junior faculties’ research agenda was found by the AACSB Peer Review
Team in 2007 to be woefully inadequate.
SAMI DAKHLIA, FORMER ASSOCIATE
PROFESSOR OF ECONOMICS
(May 13, 2008) Special Report Lance Nail & the 'Bama Boys An Investigative Series on CoB Faculty Research
Credentials Even with the hiring of UAB's Lance Nail still being delayed for one reason or another, the CoB's
faculty are preparing themselves for a Nail administration of the College. For two younger faculty -- the EFIB's
John Clark and Sami Dakhlia -- that preparation may involve, according to USMNEWS.NET sources, an
overconfidence in what Nail's ties to the University of Alabama will mean for them. Like Clark, Nail received a
PhD in finance from UofAL. Dakhlia, like the EFIB's senior finance professor, Tom Lindley, once taught at UofAL.
Will these UofAL ties give Clark and/or Dakhlia an advantage over other CoB faculty in dealing with, and getting
things (resources, favors, etc.) from, Nail? Sources say "no," and this report may explain why.
(June 17, 2008) Dr. Dakhlia on the First Amendment A Look at Sami Dakhlia's Grievance Against
USMNEWS.NET Two weeks after standing before CoB faculty and staff, who were assembled for the end-of-year
CoB meeting, and presenting a proclamation that disparaged Marc DePree, assistant professor Sami Dakhlia filed
a grievance against DePree, editor of USMNEWS.NET. Dakhlia's grievance was filed on 17-May-07 with USM
Provost Jay Grimes and Interim CoB Dean Alvin Williams. The e-mail from Dakhlia containing that grievance is
inserted below.
(June 17, 2008) Special Report Dakhlia & Co. Rank MKT Journals An Investigative Series on CoB Faculty Research
Credentials The work of untenured assistant professor of economics, Sami Dakhlia, the chair of the CoB's journal
ranking committee, and company is now complete. Having passed the CoB's new journal rankings weeks ago, the
CoB's journal ranking committee has yet to post the new rankings to the CoB's web pages, even though doing so
was said by Dakhlia to be an essential part of the process. According to Dakhlia, posting the lists to the Internet
would give them the credibility needed to move forward in using them in the CoB's merit raise and T&P
processes.
