SAMI DAKHLIA, FORMER ASSOCIATE
PROFESSOR OF ECONOMICS
(June 17, 2009) Dakhlia's Trip – Three Years Later The recent one year ago today installment about associate
professor of economics Sami Dakhlia's week long teaching trip to France reminds us all how things used to be
during the Harold Doty-Farhang Niroomand administration (2003-07) of USM's b-school. Though we can always be
surprised, it is highly doubtful that current dean Lance Nail and BEDS chair Donna Davis would support teaching
junkets that represent double-dipping for Sami Dakhlia or any other CoBer.
(June 25, 2009) Has Dakhlia Gone Clinical? Long-time EFIB chair George Carter may be done with administration
given the CoB's recent reorganization, but that didn't stop him from tossing one more uneven course schedule out to
his friends and administration sycophants. The snapshot below from the fall 2009 course schedule guide for ECO
shows that Sami Dakhlia may have been put on the same clinical teaching track that has been enjoyed by Carter and
Carter favorite Charles Sawyer, who is now with Texas Christian University.
(July 30, 2009) Carter Nailed It Former EFIB chair, and CoB economics professor, George Carter nailed it a while back
when he said that the CoB's economists tended to be intemperate, or not collegial, and as a result they had become
pariahs in Joseph A. Greene Hall. Fortunately for USMNEWS.net readers, Carter did not know his comments were
being saved for posterity (they are now in the USMNEWS.net audio library), otherwise he would not likely have
been so candid. He is, after all, as big a part of the ECO cabal as anyone else, so his condemnation applies to him just
like it does to some of the other dismal scientists roaming the halls of USM's b-school.
(August 19, 2009) TELL US ABOUT IT A Look at Sami Dakhlia's Journal Publication Record The quality, or lack
thereof, of CoB associate professor of economics Sami Dakhlia's journal publication record has been the subject of
much debate over at Economics Job Market Rumors in recent days. That discussion sprung up from postings made
there by various CoB economists notifying the economics world that the USM administration had cut the CoB's
economics majors, resulting in permanent furloughs for the CoB's nine tenured/tenure-track faculty. Table 1 below
contains the details of Dakhlia's journal publication record to date.
(August 20, 2009) The ECO Terminal A Newsletter Relating to the Elimination of Economics Programs Dakhlia Back
in Focus CoB associate professor of economics Sami Dakhlia (pictured below) appears to now be the focus of
discussions over at the website Economics Job Market Rumors. This is so because he is believed to be the individual
attempting to let the economics community know about the plight of the CoB's economists, who were all recently
terminated by the USM administration in an attempt to save $1 million in state funding. This focus on Dakhlia is
likely not good for his future prospects, at least according to sources.
