(July 31, 2009) 31st & Pearl Beer Summit CoB The recent USMNEWS.net editorial entitled Carter Nailed It really
showed the irony in George Carter's behavior, mostly as a CoB administrator (EFIB chairman), over the past several
years. Carter worked overtime to derail CoB dean Lance Nail's efforts to move the CoB forward. Before that it was all
about supporting former CoB dean Harold Doty's ill-advised agenda, which meant pitting faculty against one-another
in a way that divided the CoB so that Doty could maneuver his program through. CoBer Farooq Malik was a part of
Carter's designs then, and he was later rewarded by Carter with a move to FIN from ECO – one that garnered Malik a
$20,000 raise with one stroke of the pen.
(August 5, 2009) CoB News, 5 August 2009 GS Cites: Carter vs. Duhon Regular USMNEWS.net readers have followed
with interest the GS cites race between George Carter, who now has 50, and MGT chair David Duhon, Carter's
nemesis. Despite referring to Duhon as a "good ol' boy" who doesn't belong in academia, and despite having slightly
led Duhon in the GS cites race for some time, Carter is now 8 GS cites behind Duhon, who turns up with 58 in a recent
search. According to sources, this is a relative position (i.e., Duhon then Carter) that will likely hold for the remainder
of their academic careers.
(August 14, 2009) The ECO Terminal A Newsletter Relating to the Elimination of Economics Programs Bonaparte
Terminated After 2008-09 In an interview with INSIDE HIGHER ED's Jack Stripling about the recent elimination of
USM's economics programs – for Stripling's 14-August-09 article entitled "Cruel Irony" – CoB economics professor
George Carter provided Stripling with a copy of letter that Carter is circulating, and that he (Carter) believes makes a
case against USM's decision to terminate the economics faculty.
(August 14, 2009) breaking news . . . Carter, Klinedinst Blast Nail, USM Administration HATTIESBURG – CoB
economics professors George Carter and Mark Klinedinst have thrown down the gauntlet, accusing Lance Nail of
targeting the CoB's economists, not just the CoB's economics programs. In an interview with INSIDE HIGHER ED's
Jack Stripling about the recent elimination of USM's economics programs, for Stripling's 14-August-09 article entitled
"Cruel Irony," Carter stated that due process has been denied to economics professors who were unrepresented on the
budget committee and kept in the dark about its deliberations throughout the process. Not only that, in a letter
provided by Carter to Stripling, Carter accuses the USM administration, including CoB dean Lance Nail, of targeting
the economics program as "simply a subterfuge to replace existing faculty."
(August 18, 2009) CoB Economists Boiling Over by Duane Cobb The level of anger coming from the CoB's economists
is reaching new heights with every day passing day. Since being informed last week that their programs, and
employment lines, are to be cut by USM, members of this group have been posting anonymously to various Internet
message boards.
